Chondroprotective supplements have been produced in order to ease the
joint problems experienced by horses. These joint problems may arise
through injury, old age or extreme physical activity and oral supplements
designed to address these problems often contain glucosamine and/or
chondroitin sulphate.
Glucosamine, an amino sugar, is used to form tendons, ligaments, cartilage
(collagen is the main protein) as well as joint fluids (synovial fluid).
It stimulates production of GAG’s (glucosaminoglycans) in synovial fluid
to enhance lubrication, shock absorption and elasticity.
Chondroitin sulphate, a type of GAG, is used to form proteoglycan that is
an important component of cartilage. The latter covers the ends of the
bones at the joints and thus bears the brunt of physical forces that
result from movement of the horse’s limbs. This substance stimulates the
cells that form proteoglycan, depresses the activity of enzymes causing
cartilage breakdown and stimulates production of sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic
acid, a component of synovial fluid, is chemically similar to chondroitin).
Methyl sulphonyl methane, better known as MSM, is an organic source of
bio-available sulphur that is crucially important for the formation of
proteins that comprise connective tissues, in particular, collagen. Thus,
it plays a significant role in the maintenance of healthy joints.

Suplijoint has been formulated to bring together natural ingredients which
can relieve joint pain and stiffness. This potentially crippling condition
has three main causes, lack of lubrication, cartilage wear and tear and
inflammation. To properly treat or prevent the problem occurring all three
of these conditions should be dealt with,
